Astrological Fun
I don’t believe in astrology, but I find it entertaining. Codified systems of symbolic theory and application fascinate me, and after seeing the results posted by a friend I thought I’d post my analysis too. I understand that most of what I’m getting out of these results are self reflective projections, but it’s my blog so deal with it. I will bold the parts that appear relevant to me.
Rising Sign is in 11 Degrees Pisces
Very sensitive to your surroundings, other people’s feelings become your feelings. Try to avoid negative people because your tendency to empathize with them will make you negative also. An idealist, you must believe in something beyond your normal everyday existence. A dreamer, you like to escape to a world of your own creation. As such, you are known for the vividness of your imagination and should try to share your inner visions with others. Very self-sacrificial by nature, beware of others becoming overly dependent on you or vice versa. Allow yourself to live for yourself once in a while — you deserve it. Don’t be so envious of those who are more aggressive than you — your gentle charity and true humility are indeed wonderful gifts. on the tenth house cusp (MIDHEAVEN).
(This feels almost directly applicable to all my meditative observation, especially the need for something beyond routine and “everyday existence”)
Sun is in 01 Degrees Capricorn.
Extremely serious and mature, you are capable of accepting responsibilities and do so willingly. Others expect you to be dutiful as a matter of course. You tend to get angry when people get rewards after not having worked anywhere near as hard as you. You are goal-oriented and an achiever by nature — you’re a hard worker and are justifiably proud of the tangible results of your efforts. You tend to have “tunnel-vision” — this allows you to block out extraneous matters that might distract others and to concentrate totally on the matter at hand. As such, you are the ideal one to manage or administrate any ongoing project and to be practical and efficient at it. You are not a fast worker, but you are quite thorough. You are known for being totally persistent, tenacious and tireless in reaching your goals.
(This very accurately describes my teenage worldview, but feels less applicable currently.)
Moon is in 02 Degrees Aries.
High-spirited and courageous, you are a fighter when your emotions are aroused. The degree of force and drive that you can bring to any effort sometimes surprises others. You have hair-trigger reactions to specific stimuli and tend to “let it all hang out.” You sometimes act before you think and do things on the spur of the moment, and that sometimes gets you into trouble. Your moods change quickly — you have quite a temper, but you don’t hold grudges. Very independent, with an extremely strong and forceful personality, you are known for being impulsive, careless, reckless, foolhardy, rash and daring.
(This one is my Jungian shadow self.)
Mercury is in 19 Degrees Capricorn.
You are a careful thinker, very cautious and conservative. You are quite skillful at organizing, directing and planning activities. Practical and useful things interest you — you are not attracted to abstract thoughts or ideas. With your tendency to be highly focused and very goal-oriented, you have a good head for business. But beware of a tendency to be narrow-minded and dogmatic. Your sense of humor tends toward being earthy and slapstick crude.
(I do not identify with this one beyond my persistent love of crude slapstick, though this matches my teenage idea of my future self).
Venus is in 13 Degrees Capricorn.
You tend to keep your feelings under control — emotions are only released in serious or important situations. You are distrustful of others whose behavior could be judged excessive or immoderate. As such, you prefer to relate only to those who are older than you or to those whose position is such that respect and duty are more important for both of you than passion or emotional response. Be careful, however, of relationships that are merely based on practicality or utility or you will ultimately be lonely.
(I constantly strive for emotional control and like others who are intense and yet controlled. I am often quite lonely because I generally desire utilitarian reasons to break my solitary routines lest I lose emotional control.)
Mars is in 10 Degrees Aquarius.
Your ideas and opinions are usually inventive and original, but sometimes they are merely eccentric and offbeat. You are altruistic — you will work hard for the attainment of group goals, as long as they meet your high standards. You tend to resent traditional authority figures because you think that your ideas are better thought out and more valuable than theirs. Very idealistic, you are a rebel WITH a cause!
(I resent traditional arbitrary authority and find most work only worthwhile if in the service of an overarching personal goal and what I perceive to be a universally valuable reason. I operate on ideas and ideals, and if those in authority or the work I am doing distract or detract from these ideals I rebel internally. This comes into direct competition with Moon and Mercury positions, but this position tends to win).
Jupiter is in 29 Degrees Scorpio.
You love to dig deep beneath surface appearances in order to find out what is really happening. A persistent researcher, you are very interested in the psychology of any situation. You tend to become overwhelmed by the complexity of what you uncover, however, and that makes you a bit gun-shy about explaining things to others. But you must learn to try to communicate as best you can because what you know is really very valuable to others.
(Spot on projection)
Saturn is in 02 Degrees Scorpio.
You tend to release emotional energies only very reluctantly. This is partly due to your fear of what horrible calamity might occur should they be released — your emotions are terribly complicated and intense. Try not to repress these energies entirely, however, or you will succumb to negative and destructive forms of compulsive behavior. Give yourself the freedom to look awkward or silly once in a while. The relief you feel will be quite therapeutic and the embarrassment (whether it is real or imagined) will pass quickly.
(I am quite in touch with emotions, and this terrifies me because they’re difficult to control. My self control is rather authoritarian and leads to habitual negative behavior. I pathologically loathe embarrassment.)
Uranus is in 06 Degrees Sagittarius.
You, and most of your peers, have the tendency to think that all ideas, customs and traditions from the past are outmoded and irrelevant. You are attracted to radically new ideas, philosophies and religions that will, hopefully, cause sweeping changes throughout the world.
(Hello interest over the years in Mystic Christianity and witchcraft, and more recently and intensely with Buddhism, physical science (especially astronomy and neuroscience), and Western philosophy. I view the synthesis of these perspectives to be territory rich with opportunities for research and application that could help quality of life throughout the world.)
Neptune is in 26 Degrees Sagittarius.
You, and your entire generation, are heavily involved in investigating and idealizing foreign and exotic intellectual systems and religious philosophies. The most extreme ideals will be pursued with gusto. You will be at the forefront of humanitarian attempts to improve the lot of those who are in need of assistance. You will be comfortable with the concept of the “global village.”
(See previous comment. I now entertain fantasies of Buddhist monastic life, so I certainly fantasize about exotic extreme ideals. National borders, identities, and the ideologies packed into them seem increasingly meaningless to those able to participate in the more connected digital simulacrum of the world. I feel increasingly more reverence and connection with humanity as a whole than I do with my American upbringing and specific locality.)
Pluto is in 29 Degrees Libra.
For your entire generation, this is a time of radical changes in society’s attitude toward marriage and interpersonal relationships. There is a general fear and awe at the power inherent in making emotional or contractual commitments — they will not be entered into lightly.
(I find traditional ideas about interpersonal relationships and the benefits that go with with their societal implementation to be arbitrary and backwards for the current era. I am certainly fearful and awed by the commitment relationships represent in my mind. )
N. Node is in 04 Degrees Cancer.
You genuinely enjoy meeting other people, but you’re at your best if you can do so from the comfort of your own home. You prefer others to come to you and tend to feel uncomfortable about leaving your home or neighborhood for any extended period of time. Those who do come in contact with you are struck by your caring and obliging nature — you really make them feel at home. You form the closest ties, however, with members of your immediate family, especially your parents and children. You’re at your best attending or organizing family reunions!
(I’m a total homebody, and I’m not at all aggressive in pushing myself on people. I really love meeting people, but find it awkward to approach anyone I do not know in some way especially when I am in unfamiliar territory. I’m still extraordinarily close to my parents despite the distance between us, and my thoughts of children are often about having a person in my life with whom I am able to unconditionally emotionally invest).
